Role Description

This position is for a Research Associate II (RA II) or Senior Research Associate (SRA) in the Pharmacology and Translational Research team. We seek an enthusiastic, collaborative, and flexible individual with strong scientific rigor and excellent communication skills to support our drug discovery programs. This role will have major contributions to the in vivo data collection that drives key decision making in our programs. The main responsibilities will focus on planning and executing in vivo studies to define PK and PD properties of new drugs candidates. This will include, but not be limited to, tumor implants and measurements, animal dosing, blood sampling, and tissue collection. Strong in vivo technical skills, data analysis, interpretation, and presentation skills, as well as prowess in data record keeping, will be essential. This is a full-time position located at our corporate headquarters in San Diego, CA, but will require some local travel to off-site vivarium, CROs etc.

Responsibilities
  • Help prepare studies including creating sample logs, labeling tubes and cage cards, experiment setup, and animal preparation.
  • Execute in vivo mouse studies using methods including, but not limited to subcutaneous tumor inoculation, intravenous tail vein injections, weighing animals, measuring tumor size, collecting blood samples via cheek bleeds/cardiac puncture, and harvesting tissues.
  • Clearly document, interpret, and present results to diverse audiences.
  • Support other team members and help organize/upkeep work environment.
  • Keep accurate records in excel spreadsheets as well as help record data in our electronic laboratory record system (Benchling).
  • Helping with vivarium coordination including inventory management, supply ordering, and mouse ordering.
Requirements
  • B.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences or a related scientific field with 1+ years of directly relevant experience in mouse technical work and drug development and/or cancer research OR 5+ years of direct experience with AALAS certifications LAT/LATG.
  • In vivo expertise including animal handling, blood collection (cheek bleeds/cardiac sticks), IV dosing, necropsy, tissue dissections, tumor implants and measurement).
  • Knowledge of proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals, biochemicals, hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials (BSL-2).
  • Strong computer skills, including GraphPad Prism, and MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify and solve scientific problems.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Effective and collaborative cross-functional team member in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to ensure timely study completion.
  • Willingness to travel locally (vivarium, local CRO sites).
