Scientist I – New Technologies

About Enlaza Therapeutics

Enlaza Therapeutics is a biotech company developing an innovative synthetic biology platform to create a disruptive new class of biologic therapeutics. We are dedicated to the development of these novel therapies to help patients suffering from cancer and other serious diseases.

Role Description

This position is for a Scientist I with expertise in molecular biology and protein engineering/production that will help drive the development of new therapeutic concepts and applications. We seek a collaborative individual with strong scientific rigor and vision that is proficient in designing and executing experiments, has excellent communication and documentation skills, and is excited to expand their skillset in a fast-paced and collaborative research environment. This position is an excellent opportunity to work with a motivated and experienced team, and interfaces directly with multiple research groups, including biotherapeutic discovery, platform engineering, protein sciences, pharmacology, and leadership. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, motivated, and innovative individual who is excited to participate in a dedicated team.

Responsibilities
  • Implement molecular biology and protein engineering expertise to design new multifunctional antibodies/VHHs, produce protein candidates with high quality and purity specifications, and participate in binder discovery (i.e. library screening, hit characterization, etc.) — this position is primarily lab-based.
  • Design, conduct, analyze, and troubleshoot critical experiments.
  • Integrate feedback and results from other groups, particularly Pharmacology and Analytics, to assess and design improved constructs.
  • Interpret, summarize, and report research activities in team as well as company-wide meetings and contribute to research strategy discussions.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and protocols in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Review literature on an ongoing basis and apply learnings to own research, including sourcing innovative methodologies for protein engineering, expression, and purification.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or related scientific field, with 5+ years of hands-on experience in molecular biology and protein engineering/production.
  • Proficient in modern molecular biology techniques (vector design, PCR, gel extraction, restriction cloning, Gibson Assembly, In-Fusion, plasmid prep).
  • Expertise in E. coli- and/or mammalian-based protein expression and purification workflows as well as laboratory scale purification chromatography systems (AKTA).
  • Experience with routine mammalian genetic tools (i.e. transgene expression) and routine biology assays (i.e. Western blots, ELISA, BLI, etc.).
  • Experience with small-format, engineered protein binders (Darpins, affibodies, VHH, Fabs, etc.).
  • Highly collaborative with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
Additional experience and skills not required but helpful
  • Experience with expressing and purifying non-standard proteins.
  • Refolding proteins from inclusion bodies.
  • Cell line engineering.
Compensation
